Questions women actually ask.
The honest answers, in one place. If yours isn’t here, ask us.
Is the Desire Check a diagnosis?
No. It is a private, educational check that helps you understand what may be contributing to low desire and what is worth exploring. A diagnosis, and any decision about treatment, is only ever made by a GMC-registered clinician in a consultation.
What is HSDD?
Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder: persistently low or absent sexual desire that causes you real distress and isn’t explained by another condition, a medication or your relationship. It has had a clinical name for decades — most women have simply never been told it. Our guide explains it properly.
Will I definitely get treatment?
Not necessarily, and we would be worried about anyone who promised you otherwise. A clinician takes a full history and decides what, if anything, is appropriate and safe for you. Joining the waitlist does not guarantee a prescription.
What treatments are there?
That is a conversation for your clinician, because it depends entirely on what is behind your low desire. Depending on your picture it can include hormonal approaches, reviewing a medicine that may be contributing, psychological or psychosexual support, and prescription options your clinician may consider. Nothing is ever prescribed by a website.
What does it cost?
The Desire Check is free. The waitlist is free. A consultation is £75, paid to the clinic when you book — never on this site. Treatment costs apply only if a clinician prescribes something. Honestly: think a decent night away, not a holiday. Every figure is explained to you in the consultation before anything is prescribed. There are no card details, no account and no subscription on this website.
Who are the clinicians?
GMC-registered clinicians from Dr Nikki Ramskill’s own team at The Female Health Doctor Clinic. Dr Ramskill is a GP with MRCGP and MRCOG qualifications and a registered British Menopause Society specialist; she is our Named Prescribing Clinician and reviews every clinical page on this site.
Is this only for women in menopause?
No. Low desire affects women at every stage of adult life, and menopause is one possible cause among many — antidepressants, the pill, stress, exhaustion, a change in the relationship, and desire itself changing all count. The Desire Check looks at the whole picture.
Is my information private?
Yes. Your Desire Check answers stay on your device — they are never sent to us, stored, or used for advertising. If you join the waitlist, we hold your name and email, with your explicit consent, together with the general category your answers point to (never the answers themselves), so we can prioritise support appropriately. We never share any of it. Our privacy notice explains exactly how.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. This is a private pathway, so you can come to us directly. We do encourage you to keep your GP informed, and with your consent your clinician can write to them.
I’m not in a relationship. Is this still for me?
Absolutely. Desire is yours, not a partner’s. Many women come to us single, and the clinical conversation is exactly the same.
When do consultations open?
Soon. Join the waitlist and we will contact you the moment they do, so you can book directly with the clinic. No payment now, no card details.
What if what I’m feeling is more than low desire?
If the Desire Check picks up pain, low mood, fear or pressure at home, it will say so and point you to the right support — your GP, NHS 111, Samaritans or the National Domestic Abuse Helpline. Please don’t wait for a clinic appointment if you feel unsafe.
Where did your desire go?
Three private minutes. Nothing sent, nothing stored.
